| DISASTER PLANNING: Federal responses notwithstanding, what does the State Legislature need to do to be sure our state is prepared and coordinated for a major natural or man-made disaster? |
In preparation for future disasters, the state--starting with the Governor’s office and including all departments, jurisdictions and the legislature--must learn from previous mistakes that were made. A clear plan of action will emerge from an assessment of lessons learned. Important aspects of any plan would include improved communications between jurisdictions and reducing government red-tape when lives are at stake. Accountability of funding after a disaster is important also. I would like to see less blaming by state officials and more action.

| HOME INSURANCE: What can the State Legislature do to assist Louisiana’s citizens obtain affordable home insurance that covers a natural or man-made disaster? |
To make insurance more available and affordable in Louisiana, I support legislation/programs that enlarge the property insurance market place and keep the risks in the private sector. This includes creating incentives and reducing burdensome regulation in order to attract new insurance companies to Louisiana. We are a high risk state and will have to work hard to develop a competitive market.

|
| HEALTH CARE AND INSURANCE: What is your position on maintaining the state hospital system? What is your vision to assist the large number of citizens who cannot afford health and prescription insurance? |
This is the time to modernize our public health system. While significant reforms have taken place in some areas of the state hospital system, parts of it remains antiquated. Primarily, we need to develop a way to provide the “safety net” to ensure access to care in a more economical way. I support the development of community clinics to increase access without having to travel to one of the charity hospitals to receive primary care. There should also be a stronger partnership with local hospitals in delivering care and without the financial risk.

| WOMEN’S RIGHT: What is your position on the equal pay (for the same job) for women initiative? |
Absolutely! I am committed to fair and equal pay.
|
|
| TAX BREAKS/VOUCHERS FOR PRIVATE SCHOOLS: What is your position on giving state financial aid (tax reductions or vouchers) to families who send their children to private schools? |
Clearly, we have a problem in our education system and it is not working. I do not believe a child should be forced to remain in a failing school. Education is the root of any economic growth. We have to prepare our students for the future workforce. Parents should be given the opportunity to choose the best school for their child and should not be limited by their own bottom line.

| ETHICS: Will you support full disclosure of all income, whether it comes from private resources or from individuals or from PACs, lobbyists, or other special interest groups, for every member of the Legislature? This would include in-kind benefits such as meals, travel, etc., even a cup of coffee. Please explain your answer. |
I will support legislative vehicles which will eliminate corruption and restore the confidence of Louisiana’s citizens in their government. Improving our image nationally and internationally is needed to attract new businesses. At this point, I have committed to support the reforms outlined by Blueprint Louisiana.
